#CNNExposé and the 3 Ways Media Manipulates

Last week, Project Veritas - a non-profit journalism enterprise that specializes in undercover reporting on ruling class “Sacred Cows-” released a series of explosive videos that shows CNN technical director Charlie Chester making a series of damning admissions about the network and its operations.
The investigation unveiled the truth about our corporate media: that they are - in fact - guilty of promoting “fake news.” But it isn’t enough to know that on these occasions they lied to you. You have to understand that this is methodical. You have to understand HOW they lie to you.
There are three main methods corporate media employ to manipulate public opinion and manufacture public consent: Deception, Double Standards, and Selective Amplification. Charlie Chester provided examples of how CNN employs each of those methods to manipulate the American public.
The first type of media manipulation is the most straightforward: It’s deception.
In the third video of Project Veritas’ CNN series, we see Charlie Chester openly discussing how the network lied about crime statistics and their unwillingness to cover racial issues objectively.
00:34-1:06 “I was trying to do some research on the Asian hate, like the people [who] are getting attacked and whatnot. A bunch of black men have been attacking Asians. I’m like ‘What are you doing? Like, we [CNN] are trying to help BLM,’” he said.
Chester continued, “The optics of that are not good. These [are] little things that are enough to set back movements…”
3:20 - 4:23 “I mean it’s just propaganda. It can really… You can shape an entire people's perception about anything [depending] on how you do it… Just by forcing a story to help, like, your platform, you know? You can all of the sudden say, like, coal is the future of energy. Well, that could be propaganda because, like, who owns the company might have a stake in coal-mining and whatnot.”
What you’re watching here, as producer James O’Keefe noted, is Charlie Chester reconciling the truth that exists with what happens in his own network.
The next way the media manipulates public opinion is the most infuriating: double standards.
Republican statements and intentions are filtered through an incharitable lens of acrimony and contempt. While Democrats’ intentions are interpreted much more charitably, and the worst of them are reframed, or ignored altogether.
The double standard manipulation is highlighted in the first video on Project Veritas' CNN series, when Chester boasts that the network worked to get President Trump out of office. In his statement he described the difference in the way the network covered President Trump versus the way they covered then-Senator Joe Biden:
00:20 -00:35 “Look what we did. We got Trump out. I’m 100% going to say it. I mean I 100% believe that if it wasn’t for CNN, I don’t know that Trump woulda got voted out. Our focus was to get Trump out of office. I mean, without saying it, that’s what it was, right?”
2:23 - 2:53 “[Trump’s] hand was shaking or whatever, I think. We brought in so many medical people to tell a story that was all speculation -- that he was neurologically damaged, and he was losing it. He's unfit to -- you know, whatever. We were creating a story there that we didn't know anything about. That's what -- I think that’s propaganda.”
3:41 - 3:56 “We would always show shots of him [Biden] jogging and that [he’s] healthy, you know, and him in aviator shades. Like you paint him as a young geriatric.”
The third way the media manipulates public opinion is through selective amplification.
It involves intentionally rejecting certain stories in favor of reports that are more helpful to the outlet’s narrative.
In the Project Veritas' CNN exposé, CNN technical producer Charlie Chester opines on how the network uses the practice of selective amplification to shape public opinion and garner higher ratings. This is covered in both the first and second video. In the Second video, Chester makes some shocking admissions about how CNN stoked fear and uncertainty at the height of the COVID crisis:
1:12-1:37 “It's fear. Fear really drives numbers [TV ratings] … Fear is the thing that keeps you tuned in.”
1:57- 2:26 “COVID? Gangbusters with ratings, right? Which is why we [CNN] constantly have the [COVID] death toll on the side, which I have a major problem with – with how we’re tallying how many people die every day. Because, I’ve even been like, why isn’t it high enough, you know, today? Like it would make our point better if it was higher. And I’m like, what am I f***ing rallying for? That’s a problem that we’re doing that.”
2:54 - 3:25 “We get a phone call… like the batphone rings in the back. The special red phone rings and this producer picks it up. You hear [murmurs], and every so often they put it on speaker and it's the head of the network being like, ‘There's nothing that you're doing right now that makes me want to stick. Put the [COVID death toll] numbers back up, because that's the most enticing thing that we had. So, put it back up.’”>>
And guard your emotions over the next few years, in the first video Chester noted the advanced planning that goes into this selective amplification. Cluing us in that Climate Change is the issue they are going to try to scare us out of our minds over next:
5:34 - 6:17 - “It's going to be our [CNN’s] focus. Like our focus was to get Trump out of office, right? Without saying it, that's what it was, right? So, our next thing is going to be for climate change awareness.”
6:52-7:27 - “It [COVID] will taper off to a point that it's not a problem anymore. Climate change can take years, so they'll [CNN will] probably be able to milk that quite a bit…be prepared. It’s coming.”
It is important to note that the issue they have identified as the next “focus” is Climate Change, the legislative proposals for Climate Change give government control over the country’s energy sector. Just as COVID gave them control over the healthcare system, almost all of the private sector, our daily lives and the 2020 election.
Corporate media is in the business of manufacturing public consent, so that you will voluntarily hand control of your life and your children’s lives over to a political ruling class. Understanding this fact is necessary to understand modern politics. It is real.
Whether it be deception about crime statistics and activist groups, double standards in reporting on political parties, or selective amplification in the form of COVID and Climate Change, media manipulation is happening right in front of our eyes. Hopefully now, more of us will be viewing it with our eyes opened.
