The Wheaton Park District in Wheaton, Illinois plunged itself into some roiling, boiling hot water in the past two weeks via an email sent to community members from Director of Athletics and Facilities Daniel Novak in which he wrote, “At WHeaton Park District facilities, patrons may use the restroom/locker room that corresponds with their gender identity.”

Wheaton Park District’s Cosley Zoo Celebrates Pride Month, Alienates Conservatives
In a June 11, 2023 Facebook post, Cosley Zoo announced that “June is #pride month. Our animals have been enjoying some rainbow enrichment in celebration. Cosley Zoo is proud to be a safe and welcoming place for families all year!”
Accompanying the post are five photos showing zoo critter enclosures festooned with the colors of the “LGBTQ+” rainbow appropriated from the Bible.
This makes Wheaton Park District’s Cosley Zoo an unsafe, unwelcoming place for families who are theologically orthodox Christians, Orthodox Jews, and Muslims.

Park District Gender Identity Bathrooms
Wheaton, Illinois, long known as a faith-friendly community in large part due to the presence of Wheaton College, no longer extends a hearty welcome to conservative people of faith. The Wheaton Park District just reinforced the growing sense among conservatives that Wheaton is no longer a safe haven for conservative families.
