Academia Is Killing the Body Politic

Which ideas currently shredding the ties that formerly bound society together and restrained pernicious impulses were gestated and birthed in colleges and universities?

Sexual “liberation”? Check

Marxism/communism/socialism? Check

Existentialism; post-modernism; deconstructionism; feminism; queer theory; gender theory; post-colonialism; critical theory/critical race theory? Check, check, check

In the summer of 2020, we saw the products of our academies—our colleges and universities—burn and loot cities. These perpetrators of mayhem and violence were steeped in postcolonialism and critical race theory, which divide society into oppressors and oppressed and breed hatred in the purported oppressed for the alleged oppressors.

Many Americans don’t realize that leftist disciples of postcolonialism and critical race theory place Jews in the oppressor/privileged category. All the easier to demonize them and justify their torture and extermination.

Now in the wake of Hamas’ incomprehensible acts of savagery against Jews, we see the products of our academies marching in our streets in support of this savagery.

Those who have not been poisoned by the ideological and moral arsenic of our academies, who still remember the Holocaust, who are Jewish or have beloved Jewish friends are aghast at what we are seeing in American streets and on American campuses.

At Ivy League Cornell University, Jewish students were recently unnerved by a series of posts, including these:

  • Someone going by the pseudonym “Jew evil” penned a post titled “Jewish people need to be killed” that said, “If you see a Jewish ‘person’ on campus follow them home and slit their throats. Rats need to be eliminated from Cornell.”
  • “Hamas warrior” posted, “The genocidal fascist Zionist regime will be destroyed. Rape and kill all the Jew women, before they birth more Jewish Hitlers. Jews are excrement on the face of the Earth. No Jew civilian is innocent of genocide.”
  • And in a post titled “if I see another jew on campus,” “hamas” wrote, “if i see another jew on campus…if i see a pig male jew i will stab you and slit your throat. if i see another pig female jew i will drag you away and ràpe you and throw you off a cliff. if i see another pig baby jew i will behead you in front of your parents. if i see another synagogue another rally for the zionist globalist genocidal apartheid dictatorial entity known as “israel”, i will bring an assault rifle to campus and shoot all you pig jews. jews are human animals and deserve a pigs death. Liberation by any means. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!”

At Cooper Union, a private college in New York City, eleven Jewish students were locked in the library for thirty minutes to protect them from Hamas supporters who were terrorizing them by chanting anti-Israeli slogans while pounding on windows and doors.

At Stanford University, an instructor told the Jewish students to take their belongings, stand in a corner, and said,

‘This is what Israel does to the Palestinians.’ … The instructor then asked, ‘How many people died in the Holocaust?’ When a student answered, ‘Six million,’ the lecturer said, ‘Colonizers killed more than 6 million. Israel is a colonizer.’ This instructor also reportedly said in class that ‘Hamas is a legitimate representation of the Palestinian people. They are not a terrorist group. They are freedom fighters. Their actions are legitimate.’

At Columbia University, 19-year-old Maxwell Friedman—described in news reports as a woman “who uses she/her pronouns”—was stopped by a 24-year-old student from tearing down photos of victims of the Hamas attack on Israel, at which point Friedman hit the older student with a stick breaking his finger and shouted, “F–k you. F–k all of you p—k crackers. … I disrespected you. What are you going to do about it? Do you want to talk about it like adults? If you have a problem, we can deal with it right now, fam. P—–s.”

At Tulane University, the student organization Tulane Students for Palestine organized a rally that broke out in a “melee” when a student tried to stop an Israeli flag from being set ablaze. The pro-Palestine organizers of this rally are demanding that the university, “Denounce the Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people. … oppose the ongoing terrorism Israel has inflicted on the Palestinian people for the past 75 years,” and “Divest from Israeli occupation.”

Israelis are not occupiers. Israelis are the indigenous people of the land of Israel.

Israelis do not inflict terrorism on the Palestinian people and do not engage in genocide of Palestinians. Terrorism and genocide are the tools of the bloody trade of Hamas.

Israelis don’t murder civilian fathers; gouge out their eyes; cut the breasts off their wives; rape dead women; cut the fingers, arms, or legs off children; and bake babies in ovens. Hamas did that to Jewish civilians living on kibbutzim.

Antisemitism has been growing on campuses for years. Seven years ago, multiple fliers were posted around the University of Illinois Chicago campus saying, “Ending white privilege starts with ending Jewish privilege.”

As Cornell University law professor William Jacobson recently said in an interview,

[Colleges and universities] don’t want to look at the underlying culture at Cornell and elsewhere, which demonizes Jewish people, separates them from the rest of the student body by racializing the campus. … If you are pro-Israel, you’re going to have a very hard time getting hired at any university, certainly any elite university. … We are subsidizing this outright Jew hatred throughout academia.

For years, I’ve heard conservatives say they’re afraid to speak the truth about—you name it—homosexuality, marriage, cross-sex impersonation, pronoun mandates, “safe space” stickers, diversity training, Israel etc. They say they fear personal or professional repercussions. They say, in effect, they won’t take up their cross unless they’re guaranteed doing so will be cost-free. They model cowardice for their children.

Now we must choose between standing up courageously for truth and for Jews or forsake both to the depredations of evil men. Are we willing to choose rightly? Are our children? Or will we scurry to our safe spaces like Germans did ninety years ago?

Let’s hope and pray that Gentiles do more than watch movies and read books about brave men and women who protected Jews from those who wanted them dead. Let’s hope and pray that Gentiles will come alongside Jews wherever antisemitic persecution rears its monstrous head, which Hamas just did.

Nothing would better serve Palestinian civilians too than the annihilation of Hamas.

The suffering of Palestinian civilians will end when Hamas releases every hostage and stops sending rockets into Israel.

The suffering of Palestinian civilians will end when Hamas stops using them as human sacrifices.

The suffering of Palestinian civilians will end when Hamas stops making weapons of war and subterranean hellholes with the money and material intended for humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians.

The suffering of Palestinian civilians will end when Hamas uses that money and material to build a civilization that fosters human flourishing.

The suffering of Palestinian civilians will end when Hamas stops teaching their children to hate and kill Jews.
