Another attempt was made on the life of President Trump while he was golfing on Sunday afternoon. Thankfully, neither Trump nor anyone else was injured. Since this golf outing was unplanned and unannounced, many Americans are wondering how the would-be assassin, Ryan Wesley Routh, ended up with a loaded rifle pointed at Trump fewer than 500 feet from where he was golfing.
The twice-divorced father of three adult children, Routh has a long rap sheet as well as a documented history of impassioned political engagement, particularly in support of Ukraine. Questions abound regarding possible causes for his failed effort to kill a presidential candidate. Did Routh have a history of mental illness? If so, was he on medication? Did he grow up in a dysfunctional household? What part might social media play in exacerbating emotional instability and anti-social behavior? Does the deracination in American life of mediating institutions like the family and religious institutions create a breeding ground for anti-social behavior? All are important questions that few of our biggest, loudest cultural mouthpieces seem all that interested in pursuing.
There are other questions our biggest, loudest “journalists” and political hacks don’t seem all that interested in pursuing, particularly if the answers may reflect poorly on leftists and leftism, which explains why the first assassination attempt on President Trump, which should have been a huge story, got deep-sixed by leftists as fast as they could.
While they still talk about Jan. 6, the legacy press can’t be bothered with the near-murder of a former president/current presidential candidate under baffling circumstances—circumstances that resulted in the death of one attendee and serious injuries to others.
Come to think of it, while still obsessed with Jan. 6—or rather, with certain aspects of Jan.6—the legacy press and leftist politicians have no interest in discussing the destruction of American cities just months before Jan. 6.
They want to discuss Jan. 6 because they believe they can causally link President Trump to the protests that resulted in illegal trespassing. But bringing up riots, the destruction of government property, looting, and assaults on police officers won’t serve the political ends of leftists.
Surely, if Trump is responsible for those Jan. 6 protestors who engaged in illegal acts, then Kamala Harris bears some responsibility for the summer of love destruction when she tweeted “If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota.”
Let’s wander around the churning political landscape a bit more to see if there’s any boiling hot rhetoric that points to the culpability of Dems for inciting murderous mayhem.
During the recent ABC faux-debate in which David Muir and Linsey Davis metaphorically leaped onto the stage to pummel Donald Trump, could Harris’s lie about Trump calling white supremacists “very fine people” and falsely accusing him of promising a “bloodbath” when elected have spurred the malignant actions of Routh?
Or what about the graphic with Trump’s photo on the left and Hitler’s on the right with accompanying quotes suggesting Trump is Hitlerian which is posted on the “Kamala HQ” X account? If Trump is Hitlerian, why shouldn’t he be assassinated? And if he’s not Hitlerian, why post such an inflammatory meme?
On June 17, 2024, Kamala Harris posted, “Donald Trump is a threat to our democracy and fundamental freedoms.”
On June 21, 2024, Harris posted not one but three absurd and irresponsible comments about Trump:
“Donald Trump has vowed that he will be a dictator on ‘day one.’ Dictators take people’s freedoms away”
“Our democracy is on the ballot.”
“Trump is a threat to our freedoms and our safety.”
Less than three months ago, at a campaign reception on June 29, 2024, feckless Joe Biden said,
Donald Trump is a genuine threat to this nation. That is not hyperbole. He’s a threat to our freedom. He’s a threat to our democracy. He is literally a threat to the America that we stand for.
In late August, following the first assassination attempt, Biden described Trump’s “philosophy” as “semifascism.”
Biden also made this ludicrous and dangerous claim about Trump and his supporters:
They’re a threat to our very democracy. They refuse to accept the will of the people. They embrace political violence. They don’t believe in democracy.
Then Chicken Little Biden squawked, “the survival of our planet is on the ballot.”
Not to be left out of the demagoguery, on August 5, 2024, AOC posted on X that Donald Trump is a “threat to American democracy.”
On Sept. 14, Democrat Senator Chris Murphy posted on X that Trump “is a candidate explicitly running on the promise of political violence.”
And last November 2023, Hillary Clinton agreed with The View host Alyssa Farah that Trump is an “existential threat to this country.”
When I look around, I see a wholly different America than these Democrats see. I see Trump supporters who accept the will of the people, who abhor political violence, who fervently believe in democracy, who love our Constitution, and who respect the rule of law.
I see Trump supporters frustrated by the unfair playing field socially and financially constructed by the likes of George Soros, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos and kept buzzing by the hive mind that inhabits the legacy press and social media.
I see Trump supporters who pose no existential threat to anything other than the ideological monopoly built by leftists who are being to see their monopoly starting to crumble.
If these leftist leaders believe their own rhetoric, if they believe Trump is a Hitlerian semi-fascist who poses an existential threat to democracy and to the very survival of this country, and if they believe he explicitly promises political violence, then isn’t Routh a hero?
If, on the other hand, they don’t believe their rhetoric, if their rhetoric is a steaming pile of you-know-what, if their words are sophistry exploited to rile the passions of the masses in order to gain power, they don’t deserve any power. Maybe leftists should think more and spew less demagoguery before they inspire another assassination attempt.
