The outrageous news emerging from an elementary school in Illinois provides yet more reason for Illinoisans to work tenaciously for school choice. Public schools are ruled tyrannically by leftists who have no interest in intellectual diversity and no respect for parents.
Moira Gitau is a third grade teacher with a butch haircut who refers to herself incorrectly by the plural pronouns “they/them” and is offering an “LGBTQ+ affinity group” for fifth-grade students at Lincoln Elementary School in District 65 who “may be questioning their gender or sexual identity.”
A letter sent to parents with children in the Evanston, Illinois school on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, gives parents less than a week to inform the administration that their child may not participate in this leftwing exercise in indoctrination that hides behind a cloak of compassion.
The letter reads,
Starting next week, Moira Gitau will be offering a safe space for 5th grade students that may be questioning their gender or sexual identity. This will be an anonymous group that students will agree to keep confidential to participate. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions or discuss matters that are important to them as well as just hang out and play games. This group will meet weekly during the 5th grade lunch/recess time. If a student chooses to join the group, you will NOT be informed. This is part of the confidentiality of the group. Because of this, we are giving you the opportunity to opt your child out of participating. If you let us know by January 12th, that you do NOT want your child to participate in this group, we will make sure they are not attending these meetings.
Note that the brief letter is bloated with loaded leftwing jargon: “safe space,” “gender,” “sexual identity.”
Note too, the shocking assumptions lurking amid the benign language of innocent children’s activities. In a clumsy effort to make the nefarious club seem harmless, the letter writer sprinkles in references to hanging out, playing games, and recess. But the saccharine sprinklings are insufficient to conceal the sinister demands for secret membership, anonymity, and confidentiality.
If a child joins the club, no parent will be informed. Participants will be anonymous. No participant may share what takes place in a club for minors in a public school. Unbelievable presumptuousness.
Decades ago, long before social media, the “trans” cult, and national organizations dedicated to normalizing sexual disorderedness existed, gender dysphoria existed. It affected less than one percent of the population, most of whom were very young boys, the majority of whom eventually came to accept their sex.
But that was then, and this is now when we have leftist social and political activists—many of whom are homosexual or crossdressing men and women—posing as educators and paid by American taxpayers.
These publicly subsidized activists are using their positions to inculcate other people’s children with leftist assumptions about the nature and morality of homosexuality and cross-sex identification. And they are doing so at ages when children are incapable of understanding the ideas and implications of the ideas to which they are exposed.
Will Gitau explain to children that blocking their puberty will transform their social experiences during those years when their friends are going through puberty?
Will Gitau explain to children in detail the harrowing health risks that cross-sex hormone-doping poses to its victims? Will she tell young girls about vaginal atrophy? Will she tell children about the affect of cross-sex hormones on brain development? Will she tell questioning children about the increased risk of blood clots and cancer from cross-sex hormone doping?
Will she tell them about detransitioners?
Will she tell them about the risk of sterility or lifelong dating problems caused by cross-sex hormone doping and mutilating surgery? Will she tell them that cross-sex hormones may leave them unable to experience orgasm?
While leftists love exposing children to graphic images of sex acts, will Gitau show the minor children in her secret club photos of the grotesque skin grafts on the bodies of women who opt for the construction of useless facsimiles of penises?
Will Gitau tell children that women cannot become men or vice versa?
Will Gitau expose these emotionally, psychologically, and intellectually vulnerable children to dissenting ideas about how best to treat gender dysphoria?
We all know the answers to these questions. Leftist activists posing as educators have no interest in diversity of ideas, ideologically inconvenient facts, or truth.
A few words about words:
In the Orwellian lexicon of deviant sexualists, “gender” denotes the roles, conventions, expectations, and behaviors that society arbitrarily imposes on males and females. “Gender identity” denotes the subjective, internal, immaterial, and often fluid feelings related to one’s maleness, femaleness, both, or neither.
As such, no doctor “assigns” either a newborn’s “gender” or “gender identity.” That is not a thing physicians do. Physicians identify a newborn’s sex, which cannot change.
To know what makes a child “safe” requires first knowing what is true. If a child experiences a mismatch between her subjective, internal, immaterial feelings and her objective, immutable anatomy, the task of parents and those parents enlist to help them with their children’s gender dysphoria should be to help children accept their health, properly functioning bodies. Leftist third-grade teachers who are unfit to teach third-grade grammar should butt out. Gitau cannot make or keep children safe because she doesn’t know what is true.
“Gender” and “sexual orientation” are intimate, complex personal issues that touch on morality, ethics, theology, philosophy, and psychology. Do public school teachers at any level have expertise in those areas? Seems like Gitau’s “expertise” is limited to “trans”-alchemy.
Unfortunately, District 65 has been a hotbed of K-8 LGBTQ+ indoctrination for years. I wrote about their eye-popping propaganda efforts as far back as 2019.
Some hopeful or naïve Americans thought all the revelations in the past eight years of the dishonesty of leftists in the legacy press, government, academia, DNC, and social media would have chastened leftists into behaving with a modicum of ethics. But that belief was based on the erroneous assumption that leftist activists have consciences. Americans should also have learned that the consciences of leftist activists transmogrified decades ago into a useless metaphysical bolus that they swallowed and excreted.
