If arrogant Illinois leftists in Springfield succeed in their tyrannical quest to seize control of homeschooling, more Illinoisans will flee this God-forsaken state. This is a warning to Illinoisans seeking refuge in states that respect parental rights and reality: Don’t move to Colorado. More on that momentarily.
Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Education Policy Committee in Springfield met to vote on Amendment 2 to the homeschool seizure act sponsored by the pernicious trio of leftist control freaks—Terra Costa Howard, Kelly M. Cassidy, and Michelle Mussman—who detest parental rights, autonomy, intellectual diversity, and conservatives.
The amendment does nothing to mitigate the damage the homeschool seizure act will do to homeschooling families, and, of course, it passed out of committee with a 9-4 vote along party lines.
The hubris of Illinois Democrats—the most corrupt party in the most corrupt state—is remarkable. As reported by the Illinois Policy Institute, both the amendments and the original bill garnered unprecedented opposition:
The changes quickly drew new opposition: 41,000 people in less than 24 hours used the Illinois General Assembly’s website to publicly oppose the changes. That followed 51,328 opponents on the bill’s first amendment and 42,393 on the original version of the bill – all records for any bill since the legislature implemented the witness system. (emphasis added)
Nothing will stand in the way of Illinois leftists barging their way into the homes and lives of families who are trying against all cultural odds to train up their children in the way they should go. Leftists don’t care about minority voices if they’re the voices of conservative Christians.
If Illinois swampsters have the audacity to pass this bill—and they suffer no dearth of audacity—yet more decent Illinoisans will skedaddle out of this land that Abe Lincoln would not recognize.
Decent Illinoisans already know that California is a Democrat-run hellhole, so they won’t go that far west. They may, however, be considering another sunny state with awe-inspiring natural beauty: Colorado. If so, they should consider elsewhere.
With homosexual Governor Jared Polis and a state legislature as unwelcoming to conservatism and sexual sanity as Illinois, a new astounding bill has just emerged: “Legal Protections for Transgender Individuals” (HB25-1312).
In plain English, “transgender” individuals are people who masquerade as persons of the sex they wish they were.
If passed HB25-1312, would do, among other evil things, the following:
[W]hen making child custody decisions and determining the best interests of a child for purposes of parenting time, a court shall consider deadnaming, misgendering, or threatening to publish material related to an individual’s gender-affirming health-care services as types of coercive control. A court shall consider reports of coercive control when determining the allocation of parental responsibilities.
In a custody dispute between parents of a gender-confused child, parents who refer to their children by their birth names (also known in Newspeak as “dead names”) and who use pronouns that correspond to their children’s actual sex will risk losing custody or “parenting time.”
In other words, parents firmly tethered to biological reality and morality, parents who oppose “trans”-cultism, will be coerced by the government either to lie or lose contact with their own children.
How did Americans let this evil insanity get this far?
But the bill gets worse as leftists seek to widen their circle of coercive control to include, well, everyone:
Sections 7 and 8 define deadnaming and misgendering as discriminatory acts in the “Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act,” and prohibit these discriminatory acts in places of public accommodation.
If passed this bill would make it illegal for anyone to use correct pronouns when referring to cross-sex-impersonating persons in public places. Colorado leftists are trying to make mis-sexing people legally mandatory. In other words, leftists are using the force of law to compel citizens to lie.
That’s not the act of lawmakers who respect providence
Under the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA),
the allowable remedies … include a court order requiring compliance with the applicable section of CADA, actual monetary damages, attorney fees and costs, damages for noneconomic loss or injury, and a statutory fine of $5,000 per aggrieved party and per violation. An award of damages for noneconomic loss or injury is capped at $50,000.
Leftists evidently view George Orwell’s warning about Newspeak as an instruction manual:
Newspeak was the official language of Oceania and had been devised to meet the ideological needs of Ingsoc, or English Socialism. … The purpose of Newspeak was not only to provide a medium of expression for the world-view and mental habits proper to the devotees of Ingsoc, but to make all other modes of thought impossible.
Political theorist and professor, Jacob T. Levy, explains the effect of the kind of coercion leftists hold dear:
Saying something obviously untrue, and making your subordinates repeat it with a straight face in their own voice, is a particularly startling display of power over them. It’s something that was endemic to totalitarianism. Arendt analyzed the huge lies and blatant reversals of language associated with the Holocaust. Havel documented the pervasive little lies, lies that everyone knew to be lies, of late Communism. And Orwell gave us the vivid “2+2=5.”
Being made to repeat an obvious lie makes it clear that you’re powerless; it also makes you complicit. You’re morally compromised. Your ability to stand on your own moral two feet and resist or denounce is lost.
It appears that leftists not only hate conservatives and their beliefs and values but also want to drive them out of state. Despite their relentless virtue-signaling, Democrats are not supporters of tolerance, inclusion, freedom, and diversity. They’re the party of intolerance, exclusion, tyranny, and coercive ideological uniformity.
Though it may be hard, resistance is not futile–at least not yet.
