As J.B. Pritzker continues to publicly tout his fantastical economic accomplishments as governor of Illinois, reality is counterstriking by rearing its truthful, ugly head.
From the time he took office in January 2019 to July 2026, Illinois’ unemployment rate has trended above the national average, and it is the third highest in the nation. Illinois is also one of 15 states that averages fewer job openings than the number of unemployed residents.

Adding to that, Illinois’ adjusted real hourly wage growth was the 7th LOWEST in the nation between 2018 and 2025. Wages have been shrinking 0.02% a year on average, while lawmakers have given themselves $34,000 in pay increases.
