Democrats Hoist with Their Own Incendiary Border Petard
Updated: Nov 1

The incomprehensible border disaster has been in the making for decades, fueled by the cowardice, lust for power, and ignorance of both Democrats and Republicans but exacerbated by marionette Biden and whoever makes him shuffle, stumble, and mumble garbled nonsense.
In 1985, the sanctuary city movement was created by Democrat mayors, first in San Francisco and then in Chicago, to protect illegal immigrants from Central America from deportation by ordering city employees, including law enforcement agents, to refuse to enforce federal immigration laws or to cooperate with federal immigration officers. In 1989, New York City’s Democrat mayor, Ed Koch, followed the herd.
Later, here in Illinois, former Mayor Rahm Emanuel and U.S. Representative Luis Gutierrez—Democrats, of course—strengthened the sanctuary city policy through their boneheaded “Welcoming City” ordinance.
While former President Trump made tremendous strides in curtailing illegal immigration encouraged by previous congressional inattention, ineptitude, and corruption, Biden and his collaborators took office and decimated any and all efforts to stop the mayhem.
As predicted, the calamity has exploded. The statistics are mindboggling. The New York Post reports that a “jaw-dropping 3.8 million people have entered the United States through its borders since President Joe Biden took office in 2021—nearly half of whom slipped into the country illegally and were never caught.”
The humanitarian and economic toll is staggering.
Women and children are grievously abused in the treacherous journey that Democrats have incentivized.
Murderous drug cartels working with nefarious Chinese malefactors are mainlining poison into the arteries of cities and Americans.
Hospitals are overrun with illegals seeking both emergency and non-emergency care, thereby negatively impacting the treatment of Americans whose taxes support these hospitals.
American children can’t enroll in public schools because children of lawbreakers have usurped their places.
Criminal activity is increasing in cities and spreading into heretofore safe suburbs.
And lawbreakers are setting up camp on city streets, O’Hare and Midway Airports, and police stations demanding clean facilities for their use.
Starting last year, governors in states hardest hit by Democrat views on border enforcement decided compassion and justice would lead mayors of sanctuary cities to want to share the burdens that their party’s policies have created. So, governors DeSantis and Abbott sent a small fraction of the undocumented immigrants incentivized to come to the U.S. by Democrats to a small number of Democrat enclaves: Martha’s Vineyard, New York City, and Chicago.
The response of these communities’ leaders has been, well, less sanguine than one might expect. Less sanguine, less filled with the milk of human kindness, and less imbued with the signals of virtue commonly found among leftists.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams called Governor Abbott a “madman” for sending illegals to NYC and bemoaned the effect of illegal immigration on the city he runs:
I’m gonna tell you something, New Yorkers, never in my life have I had a problem that I didn’t see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this. This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City.
Oh really. According to the New York Post, NYC, with a population of about 8.3 million, has seen about 10,000 illegal immigrants per month in 2023. Meanwhile, Eagle Pass, Texas, with a population of 30,000, saw 2,500 illegal immigrants enter the city on one day: Sept. 20, 2023.
The number of illegal immigrants that have arrived in Chicago since border state governors decided to share the spoils of Democrat policies is about 13,500—in a city of 2.6 million. El Paso, Texas is getting between 350-2,000 illegals per day.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and windy Mayor Brandon Johnson are begging Biden for more money to deal with the crisis Democrats created—a crisis that disrupted the sleep of neither Pritzker nor Johnson when it affected only Arizonans and Texans. Neither Pritzker nor Johnson cared about the suffering of immigrants or of Americans citizens in other states. Not until they saw that the humanitarian and economic disaster might affect their re-election bids did they appear to care.
There was a time when Democrats thought with their noggins instead of whatever it is they use to make decisions now:
Dianne Feinstein, 1997: “Gentlemen, as sure as I’m sitting here now, the result of continuation of a non-system, the ostrich-like head-in-the-sand attitude, the constant rejection of any efforts to solve this problem, will produce an Armageddon in the American population in those states where there is a big problem.”
Al Gore, 1999: “We share a 2,000-mile boundary with Mexico and a common concern to stem the flow of illegal immigrants to America. We must have secure borders and strong border control. We must return illegal aliens to their homes, especially criminal aliens.” (Town hall meeting, Aug. 27, 1999)
Leon Panetta, 1994: “In the zero-sum budget game, every dollar spent on this problem [illegal immigration] must be taken from somewhere else. … No, we should not tolerate people immigrating illegally.”
Henry Cisneros, 1993: “There are some benefits [that illegal aliens] clearly ought not have…[including] health benefits and welfare benefits and others that serve as a magnet attracting people here from other countries.”
Barbara Jordan, 1994: “One thing is very clear: Illegal immigrants are not entitled to benefits.”
Barbara Jordan, 1995: “For our immigration policy to make sense, it is necessary to make distinctions between those who obey the law, and those who violate it.”
But those days are long gone. Today, dishonest, demagogic Democrats cloak their selfish callousness in sanctimonious rhetoric about “social justice” and “compassion,” but the “truth will come to light … at the length truth will out.” It always does.
