On February 26, 2024, four administrators and one county sex “educator”/leftist activist in Flagstaff, Arizona participated in a Zoom call during which they reviewed the district’s sex ed curriculum.
Thanks to the presence of the leftist activist, Sydney Tolchinsky, over a quarter of the 49 minutes spent discussing sex ed curricula from elementary through high school was spent on how to promote leftist views of “gender” to fifth-graders. Tolchinsky made sure that her pronouns (she/her) were included during the Zoom call in which she winsomely pleaded her case for eliminating the binary:
I just want to address the language. There’s a lot of boys vs. girls language. We have been moving toward in the last ten years … instead of saying “Girls have periods. Boys don’t have periods,” we say, ya know, “Some people have periods,” … in the spirit of um, keeping these um trans and trans non-binary kids in our minds, who in fifth grade may or may not be out, may or may not have expressed their gender yet. … just to keep in mind that in the boys’ room, you will have transboys who have periods. … We’re saying, “People with a uterus are gonna have a period most of the time, and people without a uterus won’t.”
Assistant Superintendent Lance Huffman, cheerleader for efforts to eliminate linguistic distinctions between boys and girls, believes that introducing children through policy, practice, and curricula to leftist ideas about gender will make kids more empathetic and reduce bullying. That’s what a PhD in education from Harvard will get you.
They also discussed that Arizona law mandates sex-separated sex ed classes until age fourteen in order to allow student to feel comfortable asking questions without the presence of opposite-sex students. But then they continue discussing allowing students under fourteen to attend whichever class they feel most comfortable in.
The assistant superintendent offers a mini-lesson in leftist gender ideology, using the terms cisgender, trans non-binary, and the most nonsensical term “gender assigned at birth.”
In the mouths and minds of leftists, “gender” refers to arbitrary, socially constructed cultural conventions, behaviors, and roles imposed on individuals. “Gender identity” is the subjective, internal, non-material feelings a person has about their maleness, femaleness, both or neither. No obstetrician assigns either “gender” or “gender identity” to infants at birth. Obstetricians identity the sex of babies at birth.
One of the participants, Betty Smith, coordinator and instructor for sexual health, expressed tepid reservations about proposed changes pertaining to leftist gender ideology in fifth grade, but even tepid concerns were too much for activist Tolchinsky.
She responded by sharing how “difficult” it is to keep personal opinions out of the classroom, implying that she, in fact, does. Ironically, she was the person most engaged in implementing her personal beliefs regarding gender ideology.
For example, she posited that students will be safer and less at risk for suicide if classrooms are places where fifth-graders can experiment with gender. That is a personal belief of hers that is integral to doctrinaire leftist gender ideology. It presumes that embracing an identity contradictory to one’s immutable biology and anatomy can be good.
This Zoom call came two weeks after a district school board meeting at which a father confronted the board about a flyer that had been posted in one of the district’s elementary schools advertising a “Name-Change Clinic” being offered at a local library to help “trans and gender non-conforming individual[s]” legally change their names. “All Ages” invited.
Parents caught wind of the Zoom call and confronted the school board with their concerns about proposed changes, to which, according to the Daily Signal, Board President Christine Fredericks ignorantly retorted, “I will never apologize for being inclusive.”
Acknowledging the scientific reality that the human species is sexually dimorphic—in other words, there are two sexes—is no more exclusionary than acknowledging there are brown-eyed and blue-eyed people. Biological sex is not an arbitrary, socially constructed, culturally imposed phenomenon.
Imagine the howls of rage leftists would emit if school board members, administrators, faculty members, or county employees were to say, “Henceforth, in order to be inclusive and foster empathy, we will no longer refer to people as black, brown, or white.” Since differences is skin color are ontologically and biochemically meaningless, such a change would be far more justifiable than encouraging children to pretend the emperor is an empress or to provide spaces where children can experiment with rejecting their sex.
But logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead, and the white knights who identify as damsels in distress are talking backwards. If leftists get their ideological way, fantasy and fiction will replace science in sex ed.
The moral of this story is pull your kids out of public indoctrination centers.
