Just when you thought no leftist political scandal could top the government/media collusion to conceal Biden’s dementia; the abuse of government power to target President Trump and allies; the abuse of government power to bury the Hunter laptop story; the abuse of government power to target conservative pro-life activists, parents, and Catholics; the abuse of government power to pressure social media; and the Jan. 6 kangaroo investigation, another egregious offense against taxpayers emerges.
It appears we the people have been unknowingly conscripted to pay leftist news outlets as they seek to thwart the will of we the people.
In a series of reports, Americans are learning that we the people have been funding/propping up the New York Times, Associated Press, and Politico as they seek to throw elections to Dems, promote leftist policies, and destroy conservatism.
According to the Daily Mail, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) discovered that $8.2 million in “government subsidies” from multiple federal agencies, including the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Department of the Interior, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Health and Human Services, was paid to Politico—a left-leaning news outlet.
As the news that DOGE was shutting down USAID spread, Politico employees learned that they had not been paid. While Politico poohbahs claim the missing salary payments were caused by a “technical glitch,” others are saying Politico is in deep fiscal doo-doo if they lose the money sucked out of the pockets of Americans.
Even more shocking is the news reported by Ian Miles Chong about the millions of taxpayer dollars the grifty New York Times has scarfed up:
The US Government gave the New York Times tens of millions of dollars over just the past 5 years despite paying relatively little money to the NYT in the years preceding 2021. For instance, in August 2024, the US government awarded $4.1 million to the NYT. The bulk of the funds came from the US Department of Health and Human Services at $26.90m, followed by the National Science Foundation at $19.15m.
Some portion, perhaps a big portion, of the money paid by we the people to news outlets comes from subscriptions paid to the outlets by government agencies for “premium subscriptions” that go “deeper on policy and industry and costs thousands per year,” like PoliticoPro.
Jeanne Ives responds to the defense proffered by news outlets of government funding of these subscription services:
These analyses should be performed by staff at agencies and inside congressional offices. No taxpayer money should be spent on media subscriptions to the New York Times and other outlets, including conservative outlets like Daily Wire or the Wall Street Journal.
Closer to home, in Illinois government agencies and staff should also not be using taxpayer money to buy subscriptions to CapFax, an insider-slanted publication. The fact that CapFax does seem to report information on both process and intent behind legislation proves that legislators fail to have open, honest discussions for all stakeholders to hear.
As one might expect, Axios is taking umbrage at the potential loss of our the people’s money:
A fake theory about Politico being funded by the government is catching fire in right-wing circles. … The government spends trillions of taxpayer funds annually. The fact that the Trump administration is focused on slashing relatively small media budgets at the outset of Trump’s second term speaks to how seriously targeting media companies is their priority.
Ah yes, there it is: the argument that if the challenged expenditure isn’t in the gazillions, it’s unimportant. But it is important to the millions of taxpayers who have been unwittingly subsidizing news outlets that hate and undermine the values, beliefs, policies, and leaders that we the people support.
When the national debt stands at $36 trillion and counting, we should be cutting every dollar we can, starting with those dollars that serve to advance leftist organizations and ideologies. If the loss of we the people’s money hastens the demise of the New York Times, Politico, and AP, so much the better.
