Chicago’s Personal PAC Smears Hinsdale School Board Candidate Andrew Catton

Here’s your Outrage ‘o’ the Day, this one in the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale.

Last week, I wrote about Chicago’s leftwing Personal PAC, promoter of all things far left, that has stuck its big ugly nose into suburban affairs by sending out a wildly deceitful mailer about Tom Chavez, conservative school board candidate in Elmhurst.

This mailer accuses Mr. Chavez of being an “extremist” who supports “book bans” and “censorship” and seeks to “control what we read and teachers teach.” In plain English—as opposed to leftist Newspeak—Mr. Chavez opposes the use of taxpayer funds to purchase sexually graphic material in public schools and opposes making such material available to minors.

Since leftists are respecters of no boundaries, Personal PAC has decided to stick its dirty fingers into Hinsdale business by sending virtually identical mailers to Hinsdale residents in an effort to undermine the campaign of Andrew Catton who is running for the District 86 School Board.

These mailers accuse Mr. Catton of being an “extremist” who “wants to wreck our public schools” and who supports “book bans and censorship.” With its aspish forked tongue, Personal PAC claims,

politicians like Andrew Catton are trying to turn us against schools and libraries so they can CONTROL what we can read and what teachers can teach; SLASH FUNDING from schools and libraries; [and] DENY RESOURCES from children based on what they look like or where they come from.

Only an organization completely devoid of ethics could send out a mailer like this.

Note, it doesn’t accuse Mr. Catton of doing any of the nefarious deeds listed. The mailer says, “politicians like Andrew Catton.” There are no names included of any politician who wants to control, slash, and deny.

Most taxpayers believe that someone should be monitoring what public money is spent on. Most taxpayers what some control over what resources minor children can access at school. Most taxpayers want schools to spend money wisely.

And most Hinsdale taxpayers—like taxpayers in every community—want their taxes to be used to educate every lawful citizen in their schools regardless of their appearance, skin color, ethnicity, religion, or nation of origin.

It’s absurd of Personal PAC to claim Mr. Catton, who has three children in the Hinsdale school system, would seek to “wreck” Hinsdale public schools. But when outside interlopers with deep pockets fund smear campaigns, they’re never forced to provide evidence for their claims.

Mr. Catton has learned the unpleasant way just how morally vacuous leftists can be.

Mr. Catton ran for the school board in 2023 when he discovered that an odious Hinsdale resident, Reid McCollum, who at the time was a volunteer for a candidate opposing Mr. Catton, had created a fake website attributed to Mr. Catton.

When McCollum was initially queried about the fake website, he lied, denying he had anything to do with it. Finally, he was forced to admit the truth and was asked to step down from his volunteer position in Catton’s opponent’s campaign.

In April 2024, while Mr. Catton was speaking during the public comments time at a school board meeting, the unhinged crank McCollum shouted, “You racist Nazi!”

And then during the misbegotten COVID lockdown, McCollum began taking photos of children playing at neighborhood parks, posting their photos online, and urging viewers, “If you know their parents shame them.”

The DuPage Policy Journal reported at the time that McCollum posted on Twitter, “Hinsdale parks every afternoon. Great work, reckless parents.”

McCollum is the chair of the DuPage County Democrats, which should tell you everything you need to know about them.

If Personal PAC and Reid McCollum oppose Andrew Catton, he’s got to be good. Let’s hope Hinsdale residents book it to their polling places tomorrow to elect Andrew Catton for the D86 School Board.
