Only ignorant young people mal-educated by leftists in (mostly) public schools believe that socialism will provide more freedom, opportunities, prosperity, fairness, dignity, and safety than capitalism. Not even mainstream Democrats believe socialism will build a gilded path to utopia.
Democratic Socialists of America are getting the donkey’s share of press, but there are other organizations hell-bent on severing America from its foundational principles and structures. One of those organizations is the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PLA) whose website reveals everything about its goal of socially constructing the most colossal oppressor the world has ever known:
The idea that the capitalists’ grip on society and their increasingly repressive state can be abolished through any means other than a revolutionary overturn is an illusion. Equally unrealistic are reformist hopes for a “kinder, gentler” capitalism, or solutions based on economic decentralization or small group autonomy. Meeting the needs of the more than 6.5 billion people who inhabit the planet today is impossible without large-scale agriculture and industry and economic planning.
A revolution is the only means that will satiate the ravenous desire of socialists for complete control of, well, everything. By appropriating the power, wealth, civic structures, and private institutions and businesses created by capitalism and American political principles, socialists would create a gargantuan, monstrously oppressive system the likes of which the world has never seen.
Looking deeper, their plan is even more frightening:
The dictatorship of the rich must be dismantled and replaced with the working class in power. A state and government “of, by and for” the workers must replace the capitalist state. The foundation of any state power is repressive force—the military, police, prisons, courts and so on. The standing army and police must be disbanded and replaced by the armed people, organized in workers’ defense councils. A critical task of the new socialist order will be defending itself from the displaced capitalist class that would like to return to the days of exploitation.
Sounds like a vigilante police force whose goal will be repressing the newly impoverished, former capitalists.
On what does the PSL base its notion that “armed people organized in workers’ defense councils” would be less repressive than existing trained military, police, prisons, and courts, limited by policies and laws? Imagination and desire?
The same childish utopianism leads the PSL to pursue the appropriation of the American judicial system, modifying it by rendering it less professional:
A workers’ government would create an entirely different type of court system, with its basic institutions determined by the democratic organs of workers’ power. Judges would not be required to be lawyers. All public officials, without exception, would be elected and subject to recall at any time by those who elected them.
Socialists are so ignorant of both history and human nature that they believe less trained, less knowledgeable “workers” will have more integrity and skill in determining guilt or innocence than trained attorneys.
Further, since when are elections an absolute guarantee of less corruption and less repression? After all, elections can militate against judicial independence.
Socialists believe their “democratic organs” of workers’ power, their judges, their electorate responsible for recalling disfavored public officials will be immune to venal temptations and other manifestations of corruption.
To ensure that no citizen can accumulate more wealth than any other, BIG Brother will establish and control wages:
The salaries of all elected officials will be no higher than the average wage of workers. The same would be true for all those hired to carry out government and state business. Holding public office would be based on a real desire to serve, not on self-enrichment.
No word about what will motivate those hired to carry out government and state business to work hard once the incentive for working hard is eradicated. Try telling high school students working on a group project that everyone in the group will be receiving a “C” no matter how much effort he or she puts into the project. Since when does the “desire to serve” motivate the masses to work harder than financial remuneration? The PSL’s socialist project aims to rob everyone of the incentive to work hard, create, and build. Worse yet, socialists plan on stealing money and property already earned:
Corporate lobbying would be eliminated — along with the corporations themselves. A workers’ government would begin to build socialism by expropriating the privatized wealth of the banks, industry, agribusiness, mines and other wealth-generating properties, eliminating the vast control the capitalists have over production. This would be done without compensation to the capitalist owners who have stolen so much for so long from the workers and oppressed peoples of the world.
Allowing Big Brother to gobble up all private business disincentivizes innovation and industriousness, the very things that create jobs, prosperity, and the tax base needed to help those unable to help themselves.
A video produced by the PSL provides the totalizing vision socialists have for a future dystopian Amerika through statements made by eleven wannabe-revolutionaries. Here are just four of their socialist aspirations:
- “I’m a socialist because I think we should fund public education, not bombs that kill innocent children.”
- “I’m a socialist because I want to see my immigrant communities live with safety and dignity.”
- “I’m a socialist because no child should have to go to bed hungry or without a roof over their head.”
- “I’m a socialist because queer and trans people deserve to live a dignified life where our healthcare, housing, and jobs are guaranteed human rights.”
Here’s the phantasmagorical reality of the socialists’ dream:
The PSL tacitly suggests a false dichotomy, implying that there is a choice between educating children and maintaining a military force. Providing public education does not preclude having a strong military, and no large prosperous country can survive without a strong military.
Communities of legal immigrants, like every other community, cannot live with safety when illegal immigrants are committing violent crimes and stealing public resources that should be used for legitimate purposes, including providing essential services to legal immigrants.
Where are the starving children in America? Obesity is now a childhood crisis. Many parents in impoverished communities are choosing to use government subsidies to buy junk food that they let their children consume without limits. That is not a problem solved by more government control.
The dystopian dream of socialists means no sexual boundaries. No sex-based private spaces for anyone. It means no sex-based sports for anyone, a practice that disproportionately harms girls and women. It means that no small private businesses—if they can even exist in a socialist Upside Down—can refuse to hire big burly men in dresses or bearded crossdressing women.
The PSL’s dream for healthcare is socialized medicine that will result in worse physician shortages, longer wait times for treatment, fewer healthcare choices, and more physician-assisted killing of expendable people who burden the inefficient system.
People are turning to socialism not only because they are ignorant of history but also because they are ignorant of human nature. They’re ignorant of how necessary incentives—including financial incentives—are in motivating people to work hard. And they’re ignorant of the human need for purpose and meaning.
Leftists have eroded respect for sexual sanity, marriage, the nuclear family, and Judeo-Christian faith traditions, thereby leaving young people spiritually and emotionally floundering. In their confusion and emptiness, young people are turning to illusory movements for meaning, purpose, and direction. What they are finding is evil and destruction.
