Infovaticana article, From Dick Durbin to Michael Sacks: Cupich will recognize an abortion-funding donor at a gala for future priests:
Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, will participate on October 29 in a gala at which the archdiocese will present the Nostra Aetate award to businessman Michael J. Sacks, president and Chief Executive Officer of GCM Grosvenor, who has donated $600,000 to fund initiatives aimed at facilitating access to abortion in Illinois.
The recognition will take place during the annual Seminary Salutes Rerum Novarum gala, organized by Mundelein Seminary, part of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake, with the goal of raising funds for the formation of future priests. According to the official program, Cupich and the seminary rector, John Kartje, will lead the ceremony, which will be held at the IBEW Local 134 Union facilities in Chicago.

For a second time in a year, Cardinal Cupich is spitting in the face of the pro-life movement he purportedly believes in. I am on the Illinois Right to Life board; we will be taking a public stand against this award by Cupich. Look for our press release and action plan coming soon.
Does anybody have an inflatable Scabby the Rat I can set up outside the IBEW Local 134 building on the night of the event?
Both the Cardinal and IBEW leaders and members who are Catholic deserve to be recognized as the RATS on the occasion of this award.
Is the Cardinal and his staff having a hard time finding a real Catholic who lives by the faith to give awards too?
Remember the Cardinal’s attempt to give Dick Durbin a humanitarian award. I wrote an article for the National Catholic Register about that, which you can read HERE. We called for a protest at the site, and Cupich backed away.
Sacks is Jewish and represents the antithesis of Catholic values. Here’s just a short list of reasons Sacks should never receive any Catholic award.
1- Sacks’ reported $1.1 million in abortion-related giving. His wife, Cari, ran the pro-abortion super PAC, Personal PAC, for a while.
2- In 2013, Sacks worked in support of legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in Illinois. He helped mobilize corporate backing for its passage.
3- He has extensive political relationships with Illinois Democratic leaders – all pro-aborts.
4- Sacks helped recruit JB Pritzker to run for office. JB is the biggest pro-abort Governor in the U.S. He set up an entire organization to promote abortion across the country.
5- Sacks sits on the board of the Obama Foundation – another pro-abort politician
6- Sacks sought and received politically connected contracts to manage Illinois pension funds. Read Paul Vallas report on Sacks HERE. Dated October 23, 2026.
Excerpt: Grosvenor profited even when pensioners didn’t receive good returns
The Illinois State Board of Investment paid Grosvenor at least approximately $9.6 million in disclosed management fees from FY2006–2013 alone, based on the Auditor General reports we reviewed. Asset managers generally collect management fees regardless of whether the client beats its benchmark. GCM’s current SEC disclosures demonstrate the economics: it charges management fees across its strategies and also earns performance fees on some assets. Its SEC-filed June 2026 presentation reports its Diversified Multi-Strategy Composite at 7.2 percent net annualized since inception, far lower than simple no-fee investments in the S&P 500
.
Political money, privileged access, public pension business: Chicago deserves to know where each relationship ends, and the next begins. Grosvenor made money even if pensioners didn’t, but the fees were real. Taxpayers deserve an equally concrete accounting of the value received.

What is Cardinal Cupich thinking? And why is Seminary Rector John Kartje participating? JUST SAY NO.
Well, I have a partial theory – look at the money. Is Cupich cozy with Democrats to feed his non-profit Catholic Charities? Here is a snapshot from the official State of Illinois Grant Transparency and Accountability Act (GATA) database.
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago is set to receive $122,080,560 in FY2027 from state taxpayers.
This is nearly double what they received in FY26, according to GATA, at $65,393,730, and four times what they received in the year before JB Pritzker took office. In FY19, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago received then just $29,560,481 – still an enormous amount of money.

According to their latest 990 filing dated May 13, 2025, for their fiscal year ending in June 2025, which you can view HERE, the CEO for Catholic Charities at the Arch is Sally Blount. Her salary for 35 hours/week was $374,442. Their total revenue that year was $174,675,811. Government grants provided $117,683,991, or 67% of their total revenue. At what point does Catholic Charities need to strip from their name the word “charity”?
In the chart above, this year taxpayers are paying the “charity” to run a Welcoming Center for “new arrivals,” meaning mostly people who crossed the border illegally under the Biden regime. The biggest category of spending is to provide housing subsidies.
Who is receiving these subsidies??
In this year’s budget, on page 962, Catholic Charities is allotted $20 million to provide affordable family and veteran housing. The money is coming from the bond fund which means the state borrowed the money to give to the charity. You cannot be more disgusted with both the “Charity” and your government in Illinois.

Still undecided about who to vote for this year? Vote for the candidates at every level of government in Illinois who promise to do nothing but go through every agency under their control, account for every dime spent, and scrutinize every item in the budget for its necessity in upholding public order and discipline. Every budget in Illinois is out of control.
