Gov. J.B. Pritzker is gleefully running around, revealing his 18-month health journey with the prescription weight-loss medication that helped him lose 80 pounds. The medication was also prescribed for his type 2 diabetes, and he says he is now off insulin.
Good for him, right?
Sure. But unless you’re a diabetic or have a specific medical condition, you have to pay for the GLP-1 shots out of pocket, which is unaffordable for most people. Pritzker could have called a special legislative session to address the accessibility and affordability of this medication for the average Illinoisan. Instead, as usual, he’s just making it about himself while he shows off his expensive refrigerator filled with salads.
